Winter Formal

Wow...a "formal" dance already....6th grade....wow.
6th grade had their Winter Formal today.  Everyone dressed up and they even had a "king" and "queen".  It was really kind of cute.  They all just group danced, played games, ate lots of food, and took pictures.  It reminded me that Justin is getting older and that is just plain exciting and sad at the same time.  He was discussing that he wanted a tuxedo and a limo when it comes to prom time in high school :O

I would like a lever that would just slow time.....if just for a little bit :)

Tic Tac's Big Ride

We have had our hamster, "Tic Tac", for over a year.  He was actually our second hamster because our first one got out of his cage and just vanished.  It is kind of a gross thought to think that he is a skeleton somewhere in this house. 

 We have had Tic Tac going on 2 years now.  In that 2 years, he has been rescued out of the clutches of our cat Ai Ai three times now.  Literally, taking Tic Tac out of his mouth.  Anyways....today, I was cleaning his cage.  When I do this, I put Tic Tac in his exercize ball.   A few minutes later, I hear Owen's bulldozer toy going of and hear him mumbling about Tic Tac going to be "dumped".  I rescued Tic Tac just in time!

My Super Science Kid

Any of you who follow my blog know what a great experiance Justin had last year with the Science Fair.   He won 1st place in physical science, Best in Show at Wood Elementary, 1st place in physical science at District, Best in Show at District, and 3rd place at the State level.

This year, I told him..."just have fun with it.  You can't do any better then you did last year."

Well, we did an experiment on erosion:

So, last Wednesday is the Science Fair.  In come the judges.  At the end of the day, it was announced that he won 1st place in Earth Science!!  Then the principal told me the following story:  The judges were split 3-3 between Justin's project and another student's between Best in Show.  They argued for about an hour with out a result.  Finally, the head of the science fair had to pick a winner, so she picked the other student's project.  Well, those 3 judges who wanted Justin were quite upset and argued on.  Finally the head of the fair said, "how about I send Justin to State also since it was such a close call."  Can you believe that???  Normally, only Best in Show goes to State!  So he is on to District in a week or two and then he and the other student go on to State.  Yeah Justin!

I Love the Snow!

It seems like the majority of the people I know do not like snow.  I love it.  It makes everything look so peaceful and "clean".  I love to watch the boys play in it, and it reminds me so much of my childhood growing up in Michigan.  I also love watching Jon trying to get his car up the driveway every year.  Last year, he almost took out our mail box (see blog on February 28, 2009).  Ok, there are some things I don't like...mainly when the boys get snow days and then it takes away other days they would have had off.  The last 2 years, the boys have only had 2 days of their mainly 5 day spring break.  We haven't had too much snow this year, and the boys only lost 2 snow days so far.  I love the snow!

Gymnastics!

The boys started gymnastics!  First, it was just Nathan. Then, Owen wanted to join.  Then, Justin wanted to "try it" to see if he liked it...no committment.  Well, as of today, Justin has decided to stick with his favorite:  soccer.  That will be starting up in the next week or two.  Nathan has a real knack for it.  He has true upper body strenght that is quite impressive!  Owen is the youngest in his class...but he is the one that listens the best.  The other ones cry, or don't pay attention to the coach.  I am very impressed with his listening skills and I notice that he asks lots of questions :)  Here are some pics of just one day...the day that Justin tried it out:

Stepping!

Every Wednesday at Wood Elementary is Win-Win Assembly. This is the time that the kids are recognized for grades, attendance, and accomplishments.  There is also a "word of the month".  This month it was attitude. Nathan's fourth grade class did a stepping routine for each of the 4 weeks in January.  Nathan did such a great job...makes me wish they didn't do away with the step team they had last year.  He has so much fun!

Croup

Yuck....poor Owen.  He has croup.  Most of you parents know what croup is.  It is basically a viral lung infection.  What makes it stand out is the "barking" cough.  It really sounds like the noise a seal makes.  Owen is a trooper and is taking his breathing treatments in stride.  He is on the mend and looking forward to playing in his crazy way again!

Meeting Erin

I got the opportunity to visit my brother Steve and Destiny over the last weekend so I could finally  meet my new niece Erin!  She is just a sweet little baby!  Plus, I was the first person she ever vomited on.  They are both great first-time parents and are handling everything so well....I was quite impressed!  I hope I can see her again soon and Erin can meet the rest of her dad's family!

Erin Hanne..Welcome to the World!

On December 29th, 2009, at 12:01 pm....my brother Steve and sister-in-law Destiny welcomend their first child into the world:  Erin Hanne Asselin.  She weighed in at 6 lbs 3 oz and is 20 inches long.  Destiny was induced and was only in labor for 3 hours!  It is the first girl grandchild for my parents and we are all excited and I can't wait to meed her soon!
