It is Here: the Last Day of School!

Today was the last day of school for the boys.  This day is always bittersweet for me:  happy that the daily grind of homework, studying, getting lunches ready, etc. is over, and that I get my boys with me again.....sad that I now have a 5th grader and a 7th grader and that Justin will be in the Middle School here!  It will be a big transition for everyone.  I am not going to dwell on that part right now. 

The boys had a fantastic school year.  They both made straight A's (again) for the whole year.  They were part of the Honor Club.  Out of the 3rd through 6th grade that can be part of Honor Club (about 225 students...only a few were on it with 2 of them my boys:)  Then, Mrs. Watts, the school counselor, was told to pick 12 students to be invited to the People to People Ambassador Program that is held in Washington DC over the summer.  It is a leadership program and it lasts about a week. It was founded by Dwight D. Eisenhower and Honary Chairmen include Presidents Kenney, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton. Guess who  two of those students were?  Right again!  Jon and I would have loved to send them, but it was $1800 a person!!!  Are they nutso?  You can read more about the program here :  www.peopletopeople.com/leadership

Field Day and Last Trend Mixer

We decided to hold Field Day two days this year (smart).  6th grade went on Thursday, and Kindergarten through 5th grade went Friday.  As most of you know, Field Day is some fun events held outside that kids compete in.  We had events like volleyball, football throw, obstacle course/relay, tug of war, basketball, jumprope/hula hoop, dodgeball....however, Mother Nature was very mean to us.  It rained both days so we had all of these events inside.  It turned out really well, actually, and the school had enough room which made it nice.  I was so busy, I didn't take any pictures the first day, and only a few the second.  Then, after the 2nd day of Field Day, 6th grade had their final Trend Mixer (ie: get-together) and I helped with that too.

Spartan Soccer

While Nathan and Owen have been busy with gymnasics, Justin has been playing soccer.  He is on the U12 (under 12) team called The Spartans.  After the season was over, they played in the tournaments.  They played 3 games on Saturday (3 wins 0 losses) and Sunday was the big day.  They won the first game, and the second game would determing 1st and 2nd place.  They were playing against The Inferno, who was undefeated.  The team really played well, but ultimately lost..and received 2nd place in the whole U12 league (about 10 teams).  They did GREAT!

Field Trip

Nathan and his class went on a field trip (on Nathan's Birthday) to Fantastic Caverns.  It is America's ONLY ride-through cave.  It is about a 90 minute drive and his class had a lot of fun!

Birthday Party

The boys wanted a combined birthday party at the Zone this year.  The Zone is a fun place where you can skate and play games.  They had a lot of fun with their friends!
